French Toast Casserole

Ahhhh, another most delicious recipe from yours truly!  Aren't you so excited?!!  And, side note, this is a breakfast dish but you can most definitely make it as an entree or a dessert or whatever your heart desires because it's freaking amazing.


My friend Ann actually made this for our girl's weekend and then I stole it from her for Easter.  She got it from here and then I've made some Alex-appropriate modifications to it to bring you this here recipe!

HINT: you MUST make this and do all the prep the night before and let it sit overnight in the fridge, then just bake in the morning!

What you'll need:

  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 loaf Texas Toast sliced bread
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 tsp. cinnamon
How to make this deliciousness:
  1. Get a glass baking dish pan (I used a 9x13 Pyrex one) and spray generously with non-stick cooking spray
  2. Combine 1/2 cup butter and 1 cup brown sugar and then spread on the bottom of the pan
  3. Layer Texas Toast fully atop the butter/brown sugar mixture
  4. Combine 1/2 cup brown sugar and 4 tsp. cinnamon in a small bowl, set aside
  5. Beat together eggs, whipping cream, and vanilla...pour half of it over the Texas Toast
  6. Sprinkle half of the brown sugar/cinnamon mixture atop covered Texas Toast
  7. Add another layer of Texas Toast atop already existing layer
  8. Pour remainder of egg/cream/vanilla mixture atop Texas Toast
  9. Sprinkle remainder of the brown sugar/cinnamon mixture atop covered Texas Toast
  10. Cover with aluminum foil and place in the fridge overnight (this is important! It needs to set!)
  11. In the morning, get your casserole out of the fridge and bake at 350 degrees covered for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 15 or so minutes (watch it!  When it all starts to bubble and you can see the egg/cream/vanilla mixture is not liquidy anymore, it's done!




This dish is soooooo good and sooooo easy to make.  I've made it twice now and it will quickly become my go-to dish for brunches or breakfasts.  It does suck that you have to prep it the night before, but trust me, it's well worth it!  Plus, then in the morning all you gotta do is sit back, watch it bake, eat, and enjoy!
