Taking Stock

Taking after my dear friends Tiff and Lauren, I decided to whip up a 'taking stock' post, to give you inquiring minds what's happening a'la Alex Mooney world on this fine Tuesday afternoon.  It's gonna be a doosey.  Not really.  But read on anyways, cause I'm sure you're curious, as you've gotten this far to click on this post.

Making: Mental lists of all of the stuff I need to get done tonight and tomorrow at school.

Cooking:
Nada. But contemplating defrosting the nanners in my freezer and making some delicious 4-ingredient banana bread.  Maybe when I do get the motivation to actually make this I'll whip up a fun little recipe blog post too.

Drinking: {try chugging} water.  SO.INCREDIBLY.HOT. in STL this week.  Ugh.

Reading: Gone With the Wind...and loving it.  Sometimes I wish I grew up during that era, then I remember they didn't have AC, and you had to wear a corset.  Um, no way Jose.

Wanting: Mike to return from his work trip.  Anxiously counting down the minutes until he graces the little man and I with his presence.  It's been a long week...and it's only Tuesday.  Oyyyy.

Looking: At my little guy playing with his toys and feeling so blessed that he's mine and calls me mama.

Playing: Catch-up on some outside-of-work-yet-still-work blog posts that I'm over due on.  My teacher blog and my blog content blogging have been a little lax lately...trying to get back on track with them.

Wishing: I wasn't such a picky eater.  I really wish I had Mike's (or heck, Patrick's for that matter) taste buds and palette and enjoyed seemingly every food item that passed through my mouth, but alas, I don't.

Enjoying: Reading any and all blog posts from my new favorite blogger, Grace over at Camp Patton.  I really want to be BFFs with her.

Loving: My new job.  It's like it was made for me!  I am surrounded by technology all day now and it's amazing; I am loving getting to both teach and help teachers in a fantastic school.  Alex is a happy camper.

Pondering: What we (Patrick and myself) are going to have for dinner the rest of the week a.k.a. where we are going to go out to eat at, cause mama ain't cookin'.

Considering: Maybe possibly doing a wedding shoot for Pics & Paws...MAYBE.

Watching: 19 Kids and Counting re-runs on the DVR.  Patrick seems to enjoy them as well.

Needing: A ton of new clothes.  My new school has a wittle bit of a different dress code than I've been accustomed to the past several year.

Wearing: A t-shirt and gym shorts.  My school clothes literally get shed the second I walk into the house.

Following: The local news...ALL THE TIME.  Even though Mike's gone I'm still programmed to look at what's happening and make sure he's staying safe.

Noticing: How badly my house needs a good bath.  I just haven't had the energy lately.  Thanks back to school time.

Feeling:
T.I.R.E.D. wait, that's an understatement.  Completely exhausted.  Is it nap time yet?!!

Admiring: Patrick's cute little booty in his cloth diaper.  I admit, I have an obsessive problem with purchasing adorable fluff for his bum!

Sorting:
The diaper laundry that I let soak in the washing machine ALL day long.  Gosh, it makes such a difference letting it soak all day--they get so darn clean and smell so good!

Buying: Well, not yet...but scouting out the rumored details of the iPhone 6 release andddddd when I'll be able to go buy one (and hand my iPhone 5S down to Mike).

Getting: Excited about fall and all of our upcoming festivities: Mike's sister Erin's wedding (and Patrick being the adorable ring bearer! I DIEEEEE.), the Missouri Google Summit, a tonnnnn of fall photo shoots, and Halloween!

Bookmarking: {try Pinterest-ing} Halloween costume ideas for Patrick, recipes I'll probably never make but look good, photo shoot ideas, and cool tech gadgets that I want but am too cheap to buy.

Disliking: My current hairstyle, which usually happens every 2ish years or so...then I get gutsy and chop it all off (and donate to Locks of Love) and get mad at myself for doing so and missing my long hair.  Stay tuned for an update on this hair cycle drama.

Feeling:
TIRED.  Yes, already said this, just reiterating it.  Mama is tireddddddddd.  A nice long 3 day weekend is just what I need and want.  Saturday, come quickly puh-lease.

Snacking: Peanut butter M&Ms.  The devil.  Yet so delicious.

Coveting: The evening time I get with Patrick.  This summer was ah-mazing, and since I don't get to spend every day with him I savor and covet the time I get with him in the evenings (and on weekends).

Wishing: That this dreadful humidity we've been having lately would go away.  I know, we were spoiled all summer with very mild temps and relatively no humidity, but now it's torture and I just hate it and want it to be nice cool fall.

Helping: A co-worker with a Google problem via email, even though it's after school.  Like I said, I love my job.

Hearing: The song on the Google Chrome Coffee commercial ever since I showed it to my students earlier this week.  It is the cutest commercial ever, so I guess it's an okay song to get stuck in my head.

My Boys

Wow.  So I've really slacked in the blog world lately.  I really don't know what to solely blame it on: the start of school, Mike's crazy work schedule lately, the late summer extreme heat that has graced us in STL late in August, or the fact that I've just felt tired and run down (thanks primarily to school starting!) the past couple weeks.  Oyyyy, it's probably a combo of all of those!

Anyways, so I thought I'd whip up a quick little post on here (while Patrick is napping away this fine {hotttttt} Sunday afternoon) with some recent happenings...most importantly, this:

I die.  Seriously.  I cannot handle this picture.  I have resisted the urge to get it blown up poster-sized on a canvas multiple times since I snapped it yesterday.  I don't know what it is about it: the light, the fact that they were so engrossed watching Mike cut the grass, or Patrick's need to give Scooter a hug ALL.THE.TIME. now, but I just love this picture.  And it's completely raw: I did not pose them like this.  Patrick was lookin' all cute in just his Chaplin cloth diaper watching Mike cut the grass, so I ran and got my big camera to snap a few pics (see below), and I was able to capture this one when Scooter decided to meander on over.

I just can't handle it; it is so darn cute.  Definitely the new wallpaper on my iPhone and my new favorite pic of these 2.  I posted it on one of my cloth diaper FB groups and someone said it needed to be the cover of a cloth diaper magazine--ummmm, YES.  I couldn't agree more!

Patrick has recently become really attentive to Scooter--he cannot get enough of him.  The other day I caught him trying to hug (or bite! haha) Scooter in the kitchen.  I've watched this video like 100 times, and each time I die laughing (I'm biased, I know, I know...)...it's just so darn funny.

Scooter also recently completed the Ice Bucket Challenge.  Now, I want to add a disclaimer here: it was not in fact ice water (but instead nice warm hose water) andddddd he got a bath immediately afterwards.  Yes, it looks like he gets pounded and drenched with water, but in fact it only lasted really about 4 seconds; I turned the slowmo on to capture it (for an added effect).  I got some pushback on my and Scooter's social media pages (I had to delete some not-so-nice comments even.  What the heck?!!) and I want to add that Scoots merely got doused with water, the exact same way we douse him when he gets a bath (and I'm sure how all dogs get wet when they get a bath!)--so I'm not sure why so many people attacked me for this "awful, oh poor dog!" video.  Anyways, I left it up, and Scooter did donate to his favorite charity, Stray Rescue of St. Louis.

Anyways, so besides being totally smitten with my two little boys and how cute they are interacting with each other, I've been keeping myself busy with school.  I absolutely love my new job, and love that I get to spend part of my day teaching students, and part of my day helping teachers--it's like this job was made for me!  If you follow my teaching blog, I am going to try and crank out a few blog posts some evening(s) this week about my new favorite teaching item: Google Classroom--so teacher friends, stay tuned to that!

Okay, well I'm cutting this blog post short right here because I think I hear Patrick squealing from his bedroom (aka time to pay him 110% of my attention!), so I'll end this post here.  Have a fantastic week friends!

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

Cause it's Wednesday.

Since the last time I blogged all about summer ending, A LOT has happened, namely an officer-involved shooting in Ferguson which has captured national and international attention.  Being the cop's wife that I am, I'm still struggling to get down into words exactly my thoughts and feelings about that incident...so, without going too far into it (that'll be a post for a later day), I instead thought I'd try and lighten {my own} mood with some of my favorite internet finds--cause, it is Wednesday, and people (including me!) could totally use a pick-me-up to get them through the rest of the week.

So, I leave you with some of my favorite laughter-invoking-smile-happenin' internet things.  Enjoy.

I had to start off with this...CAUSE IT IS WEDNESDAY.

The cutest video EVER made by Google. LOVE.

Cause this video never gets old :)

I'm a sucker for anything Broadway, and this just gives me goosebumps.

2013 in review: another tearjerker.  Thanks Google.

And this.  "I'm just a loaf of bread!!" DYING.

RIP Summer

I feel like it was literally just yesterday when I was writing my Hellloooooooo Summer post.  Seriously, how has almost 2 months gone by THIS QUICKLY?!!  I'll tell you how: we were having too much fun.  I really think that saying is true: times flies when you're having fun.  And, if you ask me, this summer absolutely flew by!  But boy, did we have a blast throughout!  It definitely was the best summer ever, and I hope each and every summer from here on out just continue to top the one before it (I think having a kid will do that to you!).

As I sit down to type this post as Patrick snoozes away, I can't help but get a little sentimental and a wittle bit emotional about the conclusion of this summer.  No longer can I sleep in till whenever Patrick decides to wake me up, sporadically decide to spend the morning at the pool and afternoon lounging on the couch watching old Dawson's Creek episodes while Patrick naps, and BBQing in the evening while enjoying the unusually cooler STL summer temps we were graced with most of the summer.  It does make me a little sad that we won't get to indulge in these kind of days any more.  But, even as I just complained to Mike about how sad I am about summer ending, I try and focus on all of the awesome things we did this summer, and how thankful I am that we got to experience these things as a family with our perfect little man Patrick.

I decided I'd do an RIP to summer post with my top ten list (cause I just love lists!) of my favorite 2014 summer happenings.  So, here it goes:

10. Getting to spend one day a week with cousin Lizzy.  This was an awesome part to our summer that I hope Patrick will cherish one day!  It was so great getting to watch Lizzy every Thursday and watching Patrick and her interact, grow, and learn from each other!  I know these two are going to be the bestest of buddies when they get a bit older--I can't wait for that!

9. PHOTO SHOOTS!  I was so blessed and fortunate over at Pics & Paws Photography to have soooooo many photo shoots booked and take place this summer.  This is definitely something I enjoy doing so much and, whether it's my own kid or someone's family, I just absolutely love my photography job.  This unseasonably cool summer was just the weather for so many shoots that I am so happy I got to take so many pics of so many different people!

8. Pooches in the Ballpark was so.much.fun.  I think the only thing that could have made it better would have been if Patrick would have joined us.  We really had an absolute blast (as did Scooter!) and we are already looking forward to going next year!

7. The 4th of July was a highlight of our summer.  Yes, Patrick was around last 4th, but he was barely 2 months old, and didn't catch any fireworks or anything (primarily cause he was too little, and Mike had to work).  Well, this year was awesome because Mike was off AND Patrick was old enough to really enjoy the fireworks!  It was such a fun family time that I will remember forever.  I still have the look of complete wonder and amazement on Patrick's face ingrained in my memory.  And Scooter's Beggin' fireworks pics is one of my all-time favorite #BegginPartner pics to date.

6. Our trip up north to visit the Terrys in Michigan.  Gosh, I could go on F.O.R.E.V.E.R. about how much fun we had on this trip and how great it was to get to catch up with my buddy Tiff and watch Patrick and Huck play together and interact!  I'll spare you...(go read my post all about it if you want those details!) but this definitely was a major highlight to our summer!  I hope we can make a regular thing out of these visits!!

5. Kate's Lake.  My Aunt Kate's lake has always been a staple summer favorite, but this summer it was even sweeter and better with our little fish Patrick and his love for his Goose, his Great Aunt, and the pool!  We had so much fun visiting the Lake and doing a LOT of swimming (and eating!).  We can't wait to hit up the indoor community center pool at her Lake when it gets cooler this fall and winter.

4. Playdates!  This summer was FILLED with playdates with sooooo many friends!  I just love how so many of our friends (and family!) have kiddos around the same age as Patrick.  We truly had such a blast this summer with the oodles of day trips, pool dates, playground dates, and everything else we did with our little buddies!  It was awesome.

3. The pool!  Obviously a TON of my posts this summer were all about swimming and how much we loved the pool.  This definitely was a highlight of our summer!  Patrick is definitely a little fish (and I contribute that mostly to doing swim lessons wayyyyy back at the beginning of 2014 to get him use to the water) and loves every part of being at the pool.  I sure hope his love for swimming never fades out!

2. Scooter and Patrick.  These two MELT.MY.HEART.  The love Patrick has developed and shown this summer for his pup gives me goosebumps.  It is so darn cute.  Yes, it's getting harder and harder to capture these moments on camera, since Patrick moves lightning fast, but when I do it is just the cutest thing ever.  I know these two will always be best buddies and I can't wait to see how their love continues to grow.

1. This kid.  Obviously most of the above all involved Patrick, but the #1 reason this summer was ah-mazing was because he was here.  My life has gotten infinitely better with him in it, and each and every day he grows and learns something new I am so proud to call him my son and that he calls me his mama.  I had the time of my life getting to spend almost each and every minute of my summer with him!  I am truly blessed to be in the profession I am in that allows me to still work but also get to dabble in being a "stay at home mom" in the summer.  Patrick, my little man, you made my summer amazing and perfect and incredible.  I look forward to many many more with you--that I know will be even better than this one!

I head back to school tomorrow to officially start my new job with all of my new coworkers and new school family.  I. CANNOT. WAIT.  I truly feel blessed to be in this new position and know it was made for me.  I cannot wait to help teachers with technology in their classrooms and lesson plans, and also still be able to teach a few classes centered solely around technology--my true teaching love.  I am very excited to be at a school that both holds my passion for teaching with technology and my faith.  I am truly a very lucky and blessed gal.  A big thanks to the Big Guy above for making this happen.  This is actually the perfecting ending to summer--and start to a new adventure and school year--that I could have asked for.  I just hope and pray next summer tops this one for this Mooney family!
