Dog Club!!

First off, I know I just copied this post from my other blog, but it was too cool and too good not to re-post and share with all of you!  Enjoy!

This month's MRHMS Dog Club was a huge success!  On this club day, we welcomed 9 furry friends, 6 APA employees/volunteers, 3 teachers, 11 students, and one amazing learning opportunity about jobs involving animals!

We learned so much this day...especially in regards to different careers you can have with animals.  The MRHMS students listened intently about the different jobs, and asked some really awesome questions!  All this was happening while surrounded by 9 furry friends in one room.

The students got to play a game where they try and guess what animal job it is when hearing a description and looking at one of their peers dressed up in a costume.  I had no idea there were so many jobs involving animals!  I know the students learned a lot from this about different careers and job opportunities there are with animals--and for people with all types of education backgrounds.

We also got to take the pooches on a nice long walk around MRH.  The students got to show off what they've learned so far in Dog Club this school year about the proper way and technique to walk a dog.  They did such an awesome job!

All in all, it was a great Dog Club day!  A big HUGE thanks to our friends at the APA for coming out and bringing a bunch of furry friends for us to meet!  We had a blast!

another blog?!! SHEESH!

Yeah, the title pretty much says it all...I have another blog.  I know, I know, what could I possibly need TWO blogs for, right?!  I'm sure you're probably assuming this one is probably from Scooter's point of view (hey, that's a good idea...)...but alas, you're wrong.  Although now that that thought has planted itself in my head it may take shape...but I'm getting away from myself.  Okay, back on topic.

So I have another blog!  Crazy, I know.  But this blog is actually only for my students, their parents, and other teachers/education peeps.  However, if you'd like to check it out, hop on over to: Ms. Pepin's Social Studies Class blog and browse around!  Like I said, it's new, but I hope to keep it poppin' with pictures, stories, videos, and much more from my stay tuned! :)

I did it.

What, you're probably asking, exactly did I do?  Well, I took the plunge...I bought an iPad 2!!!!  Woo hoo!  I am so unbelievably excited to get it!  Unfortunately, since they're in crazy-high demand, all of the stores were sold out of them, so I had to order one from Apple online...and wait 3 weeks before it comes in.  As much as I hate waiting, the anticipation is exciting too--because I've looked ahead to all of these conferences, tech seminars, planning days, and so on this summer and KNOW how huge of a tool and resource my new iPad will be.  Plus, I cannot begin to list all of the possibilities having an iPad 2 at my disposal in my classroom (to be used as a teaching tool) will I'll spare you the detailed list :)  And I'm sure I'll solicit you with yet another iPad blog as soon as that little number comes in and I get to a'playin' with it!  Now the next task is to figure out what case and/or smart cover I want...

Oh, and another thing I want to share with you all reusable resources people: my buddy Lauren told me about the new Camelback water bottle that just came out that has a filter!  In the words of my 7th graders, OMG!  This is so awesome!  First off, I'm addicted to my Camelback water bottle...I have a zillion of them.  And now they come with a filter too?!  Even better!  So I had to dash off to Target last night and pick one up.  LOVE IT!  It was reasonably priced at $24.99, and is a super cute blue and white.  Anyways, check it out!  I love having a portable filter-water station on-the-go!  Hooray!

busy bee.

Yeah, I know.  I haven't blogged in a while.  I've been kinda busy.  Okay, that's a lie...I've been incredibly busy!  I have not been home before 8pm ANY DAY this week!  And I'm not complaining, just commenting on my busy-ness lately.  What's been keeping my time so occupied is my job.  HOWEVER, I love my job.  I don't think I've ever worked so hard in my life, and I love that.  I'm in a position and at a place that I'm so happy at, and I'm willing to do whatever (including staying 5 hours after school!) I can to make myself a better teacher and member of this school community.

This week has been extra intense because of state testing...but let me tell you something, our kids here at the middle school are CHAMPS.  They have worked so hard this week and I know when we get the scores back it's going to pay off.  Since we have them test all morning, we like to give them a little relaxation and free time in the afternoon to chill...and yesterday I gave them a special treat by hosting an Office viewing party in my room after lunch.

Today we wrapped up the final state tests (woo hoo!) and were treated to a jazz concert...and good ol' Ms. Pepin was corralled on stage to "slow dance" with a high school teacher to a smooth jazz ballad.  Did I mention today was "Five Finger Friday" as well?!  No no, it wasn't a theft-encouraging day, but a "wear you five finger shoes by Vibrams!" to school day.  So naturally I did, along with capri pants and a red Muppets shirt (I probably looked like I was 12) with my five finger shoes.

Needless to say, I was completely mortified and embarrassed.  Yet, I wouldn't trade the experience for's definitely something when your students are cheering for you and shouting your name, then act all concerned if mfiancĂ© is going to be mad that I danced with someone else or if he's going to "shoot" him.  Ah, the joys of teaching 7th graders :)  As busy as I am lately, I wouldn't change it or my job for anything.  I love what I do and the experiences it brings me on a daily basis.
